Came here for my birthday dinner and it was absolutely fabulous! From the cocktails to the appetizers to the dinner and dessert, everything was so well prepared and fresh. We started out with great cocktails -- mine was a lemon-infused vodka drink that was very, very smooth. By the time that kicked in, our fresh oysters from the raw bar, crab cakes, and tuna tartare tacos came. The oysters were some of the best I've ever had!! We then got our dinners. The lamb chops were so well cooked and my friend's fillet mignon was to die for. Not to mention that the orzo that comes w the lamb chops was wonderful!! We finished up w the apple cobbler topped w ice cream. Wow! Dangerously amazing. Will definitely be coming back!

Better off downstairs. Ambience isn't worth the price. Unfortunately, my food was off (actually left really nauseas) which was a drag given my previous visit to Pj Clarke's. Nice looking spot but too many other choices in the area to make it worth a special trip.

I dined at Sidecar this past Friday for the first time (though I've been to PJ Clarke's) and had a good experience, but I just didn't think the food was that great given the premium steakhouse prices. My initial reaction walking in was that I love the addition to PJ Clarke's and the ambiance is quite nice. It's more elegant and far quieter than the charming but sometimes overwhelming downstairs, but still relatively casual. The service was good and our waiter was friendly. He recommended I go with the black sea bass special since I was observing Lent and couldn't eat meat (a real disappointment, and a point worth noting because I'm assuming the steak dishes are the real stars). We started with the fried calamari appetizer which my party seemed to have liked. I arrived late to dinner so it was cold when I tried it but that's not the restaurant's fault. The sea bass was served on a bed of cauliflower risotto. The fish was tender but it was bland, and the texture of the risotto was inconsistent and therefore a bit off-putting, though the risotto nice flavor. I also tried a few of the sides. The creamed spinach was really tasty and definitely the favorite at the table, but the fried onion strings were fairly standard and the french fries were soggy and disappointing, All in all, we had a really nice experience at Sidecar but I just don't feel like the food that I ate lived up to the steep price tag that accompanied it. Perhaps I would feel differently if I ordered steak, so I may have to go back and give Sidecar another chance.

Surprisingly easy to get a reservation here for dinner, considering how PJ & Clark's is always packed; maybe because it was a Wednesday night. I've always loved speakeasies, so I was glad I got to finally check this place out. Host was really warm and welcoming but our server seems stressed and overworked (and it showed). After a while it wasn't a big deal because we were busy talking and enjoying our drinks. I chose a nice red Barbera, my husband got the Tom Collins and my friend got another cocktail which I forgot now. It's a simple one page menu, so it's easier to know what you want to eat. We got the skirt steak and the short rib which were both equally good. Orders came out fast for a semi-fancy place. It's definitely worth a visit when in the area.

I was expecting more from this place after the build up on their website. I thought it was going to be an exclusive, intimate dining area but its no different to any other corporate lunch spot and didn't stand out at all. We shared the calamari to start between 3 of us which was delicious and I followed that with the house special crab cakes which were quite good, but again over-hyped just like the venue, certainly not worth $40(?!). My colleague had the fries that he said might as well have been cardboard. Note they charge $4 for refills, from the fountain, including soda water! Insanity. With so much good competition in the area for lunch, including right downstairs at P.J. Clarke's, I probably won't go back. My go-to client lunch spot in midtown remains Vitae.

Sidecar is a great neighborhood place and wonderful for business lunches or dinners. The service is very well polished and they are good at paying attention to details. The food is good, but not necessarily exceptional. I have had the salads, soups, sandwiches and burgers and nothing has disappointed.

This place is amazing. It's a members only restaurant. Not sure who in our group was a member, but I sure am glad they are. I ordered the crab cake appetizer and the barrel-cut filet. Both were delicious. The crab cake was full of flavor and complemented well by the sauce. The restaurant offers several sauce selections for the steak; I chose the red wine bordelaise. Good choice. I could have had the sauce alone and been satisfied. As it was, the steak was well-seasoned, and perfectly cooked. I had a great scotch (Oban 14 yr) to accompany my meal. They also have a good selection of cocktails and wine. We ordered several desserts for the table. My favorite was the cobbler. The bread pudding isn't that great. I didn't try the ice cream/brownie combo, but it got mixed reviews from the rest of the table. Seeing as almost none was left, I'm going to guess the impressions were skewed in the positive direction. The service started off slowly (about half an hour to get drinks), but improved as the meal went on. The staff was friendly, but could have been more attentive. I know a few of us had to make several attempts to refresh our drinks, etc. However, we were a large party, so I know it's a bit harder to meet everyone's needs.

I've come up to the Sidecar to eat on a number of occasions now, and typically solid fare. But even more important - it's a great spot to grab a drink away from the craziness (especially compared to the pub downstairs), and get some good service to boot. Get a pear Grey Goose with cranberry juice - a bartender here recommended it to me and now I find it addictive!

Lunch at Sidecar was good but sadly not exceptional. I had the New England clam chowder for the app which had lots of clam but was a bit thin and bland. It required a lot of extra fresh found pepper. For the entre I had the crab cakes. Again good with plenty of crab but a bit too much filler. I enjoyed the atmosphere with wood, brick and white table cloths. The service was quick and attentive. The downside was the price. 2 soups, 2 entres a tea and a coffee which ran about $120.

I gave this place three stars because I had two experiences here, one was great, one was awful. The latter: after being told that our wait would be 5 minutes, my date and I proceeded to wait another 40. We were then seated and subsequently forgotten about, sans our orders which were taken a lengthy time after being seated. The food was not much better than the service, and the bill was way too expensive. The former: A bunch of drunk dudes who could care about nothing more than truffle mac n' cheese filling our bellies.

This place has been in the area for so many years, they gotta be doing something right. Great service, great food & desserts. I had an onion soup, chicken & apple cobbler tonight, everything was delicious. Portions enough for 2 people. Seafoods always fresh too. Be sure to call to make your ressies because they have a full house everynight.

My boyfriend and I really love this place. It's become our "go-to" date place when we want to splurge a little bit, but not go too over the top. The burgers are really great. A little pricey, but you get cheese, bacon, mushrooms, onions, chili, lettuce, and tomato. I'd also recommend the House Made Potato Chips with Baked Blue Cheese Dip. Wow. Super awesome and indulgent.

Went on a date to Side Car this week and it was the perfect setting. Great food and service, wonderful atmosphere, and the staff made us feel like we were at a best friend's house for dinner! Everything was excellent, and he seemed to take a personal interest in everyone after meeting him in PJ Clark's. We had only one entree - seared scallops the best I've had, and the size of a hockey puck. But we did have probably 5 appetizers and shared everything (parmesan and mashed potatoes, cream spinach, asaparagus). They were all as good as any of the top NYC steakhouses. We'll be back with friends and business colleagues and love the "private club" like vibe.

The side entrance to this place is pretty cool. You walk upstairs and the room has a dark rustic feel to it. Our server was friendly and had some good recommendations for my friends. I had a hard time choosing what I wanted to eat because everything on the menu looked good. Ended up ordering a New England Clam Chowder and fried oysters for lunch. Both were delicious! The price is not bad either, so I know I will definitely come back here again.

  • Adam M.

The vibe of this place is great. It's casual enough to be comfy, but you still know you're in a decent place and doing something nice for yourself. The menu is creative, but not puncy and pretentious either. Simply good flavor combinations, done just thoughtfully enough to be memorable. All in all, Sidecar hits that elusive sweet spot of being just cool enough, without seeming to try too hard. Damn, I wish I could pull that off.

This place is great. It's right next door to my office building so I come here often for work events and lunch. The sliders are always absolutely delicious. I came for lunch yesterday with coworkers and had the baker's dozen of oysters to split and a lobster roll. The oysters are good, but not spectacular. I've had them on several occasions and they always just have a generic taste to them. It's hard to explain, but I found it difficult to tell the difference between the different oysters, this is not usually a problem for me. They have always been okay, but kind of bland. The lobster roll I had was very good. Lots of big chunky lobster pieces. However, the roll it's on is not very big and so you can't actually eat it like a sandwich and instead need a fork and knife. The chips that were served with the lobster roll were bland and kind of soft. I'd definitely order it again even though the chips aren't that great.

I have only been here twice but I love this place. First of all the staff is wonderful - as friendly as it gets. The atmosphere is so warm and invitiing - you don't feel crowded or rushed but it does feel like a special occasion. Last but certailnly not least the food is delicious. Had the steak frites for dinner last night and it was great. Add a little pumpkin pie for dessert and it was the perfect meal.

Love the atmosphere of this place! Considered having a private party here, as the place is semi-quaint, pleasantly decorated, semi-casual/professional and relaxing. Wait staff is very nice and accommodating. Food is delicious too. Menu is somewhat similar to the PJ menu but also has some yummy additions.

Had a bacon cheeseburger at the bar here last night. It was delicious, as was the beer. The bartender was friendly too - if I lived in the area, I'd probably come in regularly.

Very pleasant; very good service. There was some Hollywood celebrity sitting next to my table- I was so engrossed in the food and conversation that we didn't notice until the person was leaving and couldn't tell who it was. Pricey for some things (a $17 hamburger?) but not others ($26 steak frites).

    (4)
  • J J.

You pay about $18 smackers for their deluxe burger, which is a bit pricey. Except it comes with cheese, bacon, mushrooms, onions, chili, lettuce, and tomato. Still sounds pricey, I know, but the quality of the meat is GREAT. I would definitely go back. Go hungry, because this burger will leave you stuffed.

I had a very solid lunch experience at The Sidecar and definitely recommend it for a nicer but not over the top business lunch. I ate the grilled salmon special which was simple but just perfectly done -- salmon has a small margin for error and I find it either perfect or far from it. This was perfect. Service was friendly. Arnold Palmer was well-mixed and the setting allowed for easy conversation.

This place was great, but I think the ambiance is the best part. It's all dark wood, vaulted ceiling, candlelight and intimacy - great for a (double) date, and/or a special occasion! My bf ordered a shrimp and East Coast oyster platter for the table, and everything was fresh and delicious. I had the beefsteak tomato salad, which was massive, served with yummy but a little too much gorgonzola, and red onion. Then came the steak. I have to say, I've had better steaks in NYC (Strip House comes to mind immediately) but the Sirloin in red wine sauce was great, and the Filet was definitely noteworthy. Our sides, creamed spinach and mashed potatoes, were also pretty standard, but nothing really stood out (once again, Strip House!) I should also say that our waiter was awesome - lots of personality, didn't rush us, and didn't need to be told twice that it was my cousin's birthday, bc he put a candle in her dessert without our prompting. And hooo boy - this dessert: please please please order the apple crumble. I wasn't even hungry after my HUGE sirloin, and I could not stop eating it! Probably bc it's so soft, warm and melty that I barely had to chew. Yummmmmmmmm.

  • Katie C.

The atmosphere is really nice-- rustic is the perfect word to describe it, as used by Susan S. We went for drinks after work, so it was a nice way to wind down, compared to PJ Clark's at the corner. We were told to ring the bell on the hidden-away side door around the corner, and the door would unlock. Food was only average, and we got pretty bad service. It seemed like they were rushing us to leave.

This is a place only worth going to if you're not paying (for instance, on a business lunch). The prices are pretty high for what you get - the lobster roll (which is a small piece of bread with lobster chunks) is around $25 - I thought $25 for a sandwich that left me hungry was pretty absurd. The salmon burger was tasty but again, I was left hungry and it's not worth the $18. Also, they can't substitute anything on the plate (greens instead of chips, fries instead of chips) - c'mon. Those chips are bland and are just a filler - it's ridiculous that they can't substitute a side item for something a customer would ACTUALLY eat. Especially given their prices.

Come here for the ambiance: I had my first dinner here recently but I have been here for cocktail parties seven other times. The Sidecar can be reserved for private parties and does shut down for them so I recommend calling ahead to make sure it is available. It is not particularly cheap but I will say what I like best about it is that it is quiet being situated on the second floor and the right amount of lighting complements the mood and decor well. It is not like a lot of other steakhouses that are more boisterous which can be a little taxing over a long day; this is much more intimate. Capacity for the restaurant setup is about 60-90 so it is not overcrowded. This place is much better for enjoying yourself and your company, rather than people-watching. The manager, Thea, has been at the helm since it reopened in 2003 and has a firm control so expect consistent, quality service from the staff. The steak was easily an 8 out of 10, if not higher, and PJ Clarke's/Sidecar sliders are rightfully famous. The portions are fair and all of the seafood/appetizers were tasty. There is a small bar in the center where oysters are waiting in ice waiting to be shucked while enjoying a cocktail. They also have a wine list that is large enough that you will find something you will like.

I definitely would not recommend this place, even if it weren't in a city full of amazing restaurants. It's really pricey for mediocre to bad food. I had the clam chowder to start, which was really bland, even though they tried to spice things up a bit with a few pieces of ham. For my entree, I ordered the special of the day, which was a pan-seared sea bass fillet sandwich topped with a sautee of broccolli rabe, chorizo, and garlic. The sautee was entirely too salty; the broccoli rabe was stringy and difficult to chew; and the sea bass was so completely overcooked I could barely separately out bites of the fish with my fork. The chips on the side were also stale and lacked flavor. Thankfully, it was a business lunch for which I did not have to pay out of my own pocket!

I've been here a few times with a friend who frequents the place and can't say I love it. It's not a bad place; there are just so many better ones. Pretty much the same food as P.J.'s, served in a quieter, more subdued atmosphere at elevated prices. The menu is solidly average American fare, but not as well executed as a lot of other places; the portions and quality are disappointing at this price. Good service and a comfortable place to talk and catch up are the saving graces. I'm sure I'll be back, but wouldn't make this my first choice.

  • Ty R.

We were sent up here fro P.J. Clarke's saying that there was no more room downstairs, and that the menu was the same. The $8.95 hamburger was nothing more than a patty, with a sliced onion and store-bought soft-ass bread rolls. The mimosas rounded out to $15 a piece, and the waitress didn't know the "exact" prices of the drinks to tell us. At the end of the meal we were confused as to why it was so expensive if it was the same as P.J. Clarke's, and went downstairs to do some investigating. In the end we ended up getting the difference back from all the expensive drinks. Almost $200 dollars for some boring hamburgers with fries and one drink each???? It's both restaurants' fault for the lack of communication.

Brought my visiting brother and a business colleague of his here for dinner, having never actually been myself. Not a chance I usually take, as I like to be sure any guests of mine are in store for a great meal. Luckily, Sidecar turned out to be fantastic. Really warm, comfortable casual elegant atmosphere tucked above PJ Clarke's of all places, with service that is EXTREMELY pleasant without being too overattentive. We started with an oyster platter of East & West Coast selections that were all very tasty and very fresh, followed by a generous, wonderful tomato onion salad and an equally wonderful, though obviously not a generous lobster salad. Our entrees of sea scallops and ribeye (though disappointingly not bone-in) were exceptional as were the sides of sauteed wild mushrooms and summer squash. Key lime pie, brownie sundae and, best of all, the individual baked apple pie were all delicious and decadent conclusions to a really great meal. Sidecar is one of those places that fits just about any occasion (friends, date, business, etc.), especially if you're limited to midtown.

Shh! It's a secret. This little hidden gem, is actually really delicious. My grandparents were in the for the weekend, and we wobbled up the narrow stair case to a sexy, brick exposed, dim light dining room. The hostess was friendly, the crowd mild suits, and dates. My grandpa is one of those loud, robust, really Jewish, flirt with the waitresses because hes in his prime, and drink martinis straight up, multiplied by four. Now the food was great, scrumptious hanger steak, well done crispy fries, thick sliced tomatoes and onions but for some reason the snooty waitress really threw me off. She was pushy, rude, and kept answering every thing with an "ookkkkk if you would like."

Went here for dinner last night with a friend, I was running late, of course, he sends me a text as I'm leaving my apt a solid 25 mins from being there that says I'm here, you have to ring the doorbell, oops forgot to tell him that detail. Anyway, finally arrive, meet him at the bar, get a goose and soda, garnished with a lemon, ick that's my biggest pet peeve, I always say grey goose and soda with a lime, she ignored and gave me a lemon, oh well, I'll get over it. The interior of the place is nice, I arrived around 7:30, he had gotten there around 7:15 and said the place was pretty much empty, we finished our drinks and by the time we sat about 10 mins later the place was PACKED. Clearly a midtown i-banker crowd, I should have known I got the reco from a midtown i-banker ha ha. We started with the crab cake, which was good, lots of crab, not the usual breadcrumbs with one piece of crab. For our entrees I got the scallops with quinoa, he got the sea bass, mine was delicious, I tried his and it was great too, we also got the rosemary hashbrowns as a side which were really tasty. I'm rarely in the neighborhood, but if I am I will definitely go back!

why i was able to make a last minute reservation on a friday night is beyond me, we thouroughly enjoyed it. located upstairs and run by the folks at p.j. clarke's, the sidecar is a bit more upscale, lots of wood but without the stuffiness you might expect at a midtown joint like this. if you're looking for a place with good steaks and chops (and a nice, spacious atmosphere) without the disgusting portions of a ny steakhouse, give this place a shot. had the ribeye and a wedge of iceberg with stilton, both were delicious. skip the flourless chocolate cake, unless you're the sadist type that likes giving peanut butter to dogs.

Fantastic service, really good food, excellent ambience, and apparently you need to be a club member to enter this place. I understand it's a growing trend in the city, and while I can't say I approve too much of the practice, in the case of the Sidecar it did seem to make a difference. None of the ear deafening background chatter. The crowd seems more refined, no loud frat boys and girls (Hey I don't hate you guys, but please do try to speak softer at bars/restaurants).

My experience at The Sidecar was a mixed bag. First, the service was good and bad. My server was excellent. She was friendly, upbeat and informative. The downfall was the manager...we ordered a seafood tower that took a CRAZY long time to get. When it came out, they ran out of shrimp and crab and no one bothered to tell us. Apparently the manager was supposed to come over and tell us but forgot. Overall the food was good. The seafood tower was unimpressive and missing 1/2 of what was supposed to be included. My entree and sides were great. I had the scallops and we all shared brussels sprouts, shoestring fries and home fries. I would definitely go back to The Sidecar, but NOT order the seafood tower.

Very ordinary pub menu, although this is supposed to be a cut above the actual pub downstairs. Good Caesar salad. I ordered skirt steak with fries. Skirt steak arrived cooked perfectly, but so over salted I couldn't eat it. I sent it back and the waiter said I'll tell the chef to use no salt. I said, "no to cook properly there must be a bit of seasoning befor cooking (Top Chef 101) Next try was less salty but still too salty. Oh, well, the fries were good. Bread pudding for desert was very dry and lacking flavor.

It's a members only dining club above PJClarke's. I was invited by an older attorney who works next door. We had the pj bugers, but there is a traditional American menu. Good and simple w some nice touchs. Great Moscow Mule cocktail (off menu request).

Food was OK, but I found it comical that they charged me $4 for each refill of Coke FROM THE FOUNTAIN. If you are going to have this absurd policy, tell the customer before they give you the refill.

Overall, a very pleasant Valentine's Day experience. As a side note, this restaurant is not members-only, however, you must be buzzed in through a side door and a reservation is therefore highly recommended if not mandatory. Once you are in, the staff is very pleasant, unlike many of the new so-called speakeasies popping up in the City. Sidecar gets points for its exposed brick and pleasant decor. A proper steakhouse that both sexes should feel equally at ease in. Our reservation was not only honored but we were seated at a nicely situated 4-top even though only two of us were dining. The restaurant was also offering most of its regular menu in addition to a $60 four course special unlike many area restaurants which were only offering set menus. As for the drinks, the Michters Manhattan was perhaps the best I ever had and justified the $17 price tag. The Old Fashioned was good but the Manhattan was superb. There was a very nice Cabernet special by the glass (6 or 9 oz pours, a nice feature) but when the check arrived, the price appeared outlandish even for New York City steakhouse holiday prices. With respect to the food, we had one set menu and ordered the balance from the regular menu. As for the appetizers, the Parmesan tater tots and jumbo shrimp cocktail from the regular menu were both excellent. If you are going to pay NYC prices, live a little and get the good stuff. The seared tuna and salad with goat cheese (and other items) from the set menu were both prepared well. The steak frites for $27 was tasty and well-priced for a NYC steakhouse of this quality. The petite filet and shrimp from the set menu were good and the steak was of a decent size (I was expecting something very small). The dessert from the set menu was very tasty but on the smallish side. Given NYC steakhouse reputations for generous desserts and the cost of ingredients relative the other items, I think a little bit bigger piece (especially on Valentine's Day) would have been nice. (That said, this dessert was intended for one, not to share and was probably sufficient for most). The service was good. It took a while to place our order but after that things went well. The waitresses appear to rely heavily on other wait staff (of which there are many). There was no rush to move the table and limited up-selling save for the wine which was in part prompted by our inquiries. All staff seemed to be very pleasant and ladies were provided with a long-stem rose at the end of the evening by the hostess which I thought was a nice touch. Overall, I enjoyed my night. I imagine this place would be phenomenal on an expense-account dinner given the raw bar and cocktail options.

Came here with a group of 6 others after PJ Clarke's downstairs decided they didn't want to wait to seat us anymore (citing a canceled reservation at Sidecar). Ended up being a blessing in disguise because Sidecar was a very pleasant dining experience throughout. Wonderful waitress (Jessica), great atmosphere, lots of room between tables, and a menu where everything sounded delicious. There were some overlaps with PJ Clarke's menu, but also some divergences. Ended up getting the braised short rib with crispy mac & cheese. The mac & cheese came in chicken nugget sized breaded balls, which caught us off guard, but the short rib was a tender, delicious chunk of meat that made up for it. All the servers were great; never had an empty glass. Not the greatest beer selection on tap, but you'll probably find something acceptable to sip on. Also, there's no limit to how many credit cards they can split the bill on. Amazing! Also also, try the tater tots!

Had a pretty damn good dinner here. After spending most of the day on 5th Avenue, a short walk up the street brought me to the Sidecar. Service was excellent, the decor was warm and mellow. I opted for the filet and it was cooked to perfection and delicious. The mashed potatoes were fairly average, but the bread pudding for dessert was excellent as well.

It's a NYC staple. But, I must say it has lost a bit of its pizzazz since the ownership has changed. I like it better when it was less corporate and more old school NYC.

Have been here plenty of times and it's way better than the PJ Clarke's downstairs, which is tinier and gets packed really quickly. At Sidecar, you have a more refined atmosphere where you can talk to your date without yelling across the table. The food for work events has always been on point, especially their sliders. I recently went and had the crabcake as an app and the scallops as my entree. The crabcake was hearty with nice pieces of crab. The scallops were a first for me and they were amazing! Seared on the outside and meaty on the inside. Four scallops were laid on top of cavatelli and mushrooms. Just delightful! Always a great meal.

A man goes into a restaurant. He sits down, he's havin' a steak. He says to the waiter; "Waiter, come taste the steak." Waiter says; "Is there something wrong with the steak?" He says; "Taste the steak." He says; "Is there something wrong with the steak? Is the steak overcooked?" He says; "Will you taste the steak?", "What's wrong is the steak too rare?", "Will you just taste the steak?", "All right, I'll taste the steak. Where's the steak knife?", "Ah-ha!"

I wish I could give them a 10! We had our wedding at Sidecar and go to the restaurant regularly. Our guests are still talking about the intimate environment, the exceptional service and the amazing food. I will always have a special place in my heart for Sidecar- it's a NY classic!

This is an overdue review: We loved this place. I took my boyfriend here late last fall and had an amazing experience. We booked a last minute reservation and were told to wait at the bar which was fine. The bartender made wonderful cocktails and let us chat. We then we're taken to a wonderful comer booth that was very romantic. The oysters were delicious. Our waiter was great. We only did not like our steak because it was sent to us as the wrong temp. I'm writing this review because we plan on coming back again this fall!!!!

This place is awesome!!!! First we stopped in downstairs for a drink at pj clarks which was great. Nice selection of tap beers. And the bartender was very friendly. Next we headed upstairs to the restaurant which is accessible by a really cool side entrance where you are buzzed in kind of like a speakeasy. So cool and we were greeted really well seated right away. The atmosphere is amazing. The brick walls and wood/ tim ceiling is so cool to look at. We ordered the tuna tartare tacos and the Parmesan tater tots to start. So good!!!! Then had the ny strip and the bacon wrapped scallops special. My strip steak was cooked to perfection. A totally even medium rare and it was spectacular. I also had the mashed potatoes and creamed spinach which was wonderful. The bacon wrapped scallops were perfect. Also cooked to perfection came with a potato salad that was to die!!!! We will definitely be back to try the raw bar.

This is a solid 3 stars with lots of potential to be 4 stars. Decor is nice and food is slightly above average. Needs improvement in the service department. Waiters need to be trained better and then and only then this place will become a 4 star establishment.

With so many staff on hand you would think they were ready to feed and serve an army. When good ol PJ's down below didn't take reservations they referred us to the above Sidecar. This jawn is totally a place you go to when the parents are in town. It has that comfy, classic, steakhouse feel and the menu offering are something that all parties can enjoy. Service was top notch. As it should be since there was more staff on hand than customers. Seriously. Our table started with the Blue Crab Cakes and what a treat they were. Totally the perfect way to kick off this meal. If oysters are your thing, they have a gorgeous raw bar that is right out in the dining area. I suggest stopping by and take a gander as it was quite the sight. I went back and forth between getting a steak but finally decided on the BBQ Braised Beef Short Ribs. I couldn't pass up the crispy mac and cheese, and fried jalapeños. To top it off, all this was served over collard greens. This dish was perfect. The BBQ sauce was just right. The short ribs were fork tender. I savored every last bite of the crispy mac and cheese squares. The collard greens were seasoned great. The only thing that would have made this dish better was a handful more of the fried jalapeños. The blueberry new york cheesecake was divine. If this is what "New York" style cheesecake is, I have been missing out all my life. Totally a gem of a spot for a mellow din with the fam.

This is an absolutely perfect location for a smaller wedding. The decor is classy romantic and modern. The food is high quality. I got shrimp cocktail for an appetizer . Now shrimp cocktail can really vary From place to place. This was the best shrimp cocktail I had in a long time. Huge jumbo perfectly cooked shrimp. Next I had steak and our table was to share a bunch of sides ( this is how they do weddings). The idea of sharing didn't sound good to me, but when the food came out and we actually did share, it actually didn't matter because it remained of very high quality. The Mac and cheese was memorable. Everything was very good. I just wish I had known about this place sooner cause I probably would've had my wedding there.

I am a frequent visitor to NYC and can not believe that this is the first time I have been to Sidecar - it is a midtown gem! The lunch service was prompt, professional and friendly. We felt like we were dining among friends. I would recommend the homemade Parmesan crusted tater tots as a must have when dining. Absolutely amazing, melt-in-your-mouth goodness (I want some more now)! The oysters were also quite good, fresh, and artfully presented. Salads were good portions. I am also somewhat of a cheesecake snob and would have to give 2 thumbs up for the cheesecake with blueberries. I was pleasantly surprised - good texture and crust. What can I say, but thank you so much for an enjoyable afternoon. I can't wait to add Sidecar to one of my favorites when visiting NYC.

It goes without saying - the food at Sidecar is phenomenal but what really did it for me this time was the service. We ordered food while working late at the office and I had the pleasure of being served over the phoneby Nicky. She met all of our many special requests by creating personalized dinner "boxes" and everything came out perfectly! It was an extremely busy night for us here and she just made it so easy to accomodate a group of very particular people.

The place is cute, with it's "you have the buzz to get in" thing, and the hostess and waiter were both so nice. that said, the food was not good and overpriced.

Went to Sidecar for a birthday dinner last night. Mixed experience. Service was absolutely top notch. From the hostess, to the bartender, to our waitress, everyone was 1st class, no doubt. But food wise, for steak house, I was pretty disappointed. My bone-in ribeye, ordered med rare, was medium at best, and really wasn't all that flavorful (which tends to happen when they overcook it). The grilled asparagus, another steakhouse staple, was also pretty mediocre. My wife's filet came drenched in some weird red sauce, when she ordered it without any of the 4 sauces - maybe that's on the server, but I'm guessing it's on the kitchen. On the plus side, the shoshito peppers were fantastic, and the wine list was a great combo of nice expensive wines and affordable ones. Maybe just an off night in the kitchen, which is a shame, because the front of house people were great.

I never had a bad meal at Sidecar! It is a lunch time staple for me when I want a quick and delicious meal! I love the burger, the crab cakes, all the salads and the mac and cheese! The atmosphere is not too conservative and the service is always great!

I've eaten here twice. Its okay. Nothing special. I much prefer the downstairs restaurant which is PJ Clarke's. I don't get what is the big deal about this place? The service is good and apparently its like a "hidden" place that you have to have a reservation for....but I don't get it. My client is right next door so I am forced to go there often, sadly. Luckily -- he pays because I wouldn't.

Extremely disappointed in this establishment. Service was terrible- they were very obnoxious and tried to rush us out. The staff was blatantly talking about us in a negative way. Will never go back. You shouldn't either.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
